Guest Artists

2015-2016 Season

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the winners of the 21st annual Young Artist Concert Competition. These soloists were selected from a live audition process and represent some of southern Nevada’s brightest musical talent. The Young Artist program allows these students to gain important experience in concert preparation and performance.

Ivan Ferguson, Clarinet

Ivan is currently a junior at Las Vegas Academy, where he plays principal clarinet in both the top band and orchestra. He has played in five Honor Band ensembles and last year’s All-State Band. Ivan also has been part of the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra’s ensembles for four years. A semi-finalist for the 2015 Command Performance and the Las Vegas Philharmonic Young Artists Concerto Competition, he has been taking private lessons for several years under the direction of Mark McArthur and Erin Vander Wyst.

Ivan excels in his academic classes and is an avid dancer and actor. He is currently dancing in his school’s Male Elective class and just performed in the cast of LVA’s production of Footloose. Ivan also danced in the Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker for three years.

Ivan is still exploring options for college, but maintains the goal of eventually playing in a professional orchestra.

Not only is Jenny a proud piano soloist, but she is also a member of the Las Vegas Academy Philharmonic and Wind Ensemble under the director of Brian Downey. She serves as a pianist for other music departments at her school including string orchestra, choir, guitar, and theater and accompanies many young musicians and college students across the valley for various events. She’s performed as a piano soloist on behalf of numerous foundations at social events including conventions and galas; and has even performed with famous Vegas jazz pianist, Wes Winters. Jenny has volunteered for the Las Vegas Wine Music & Festival, multiple charities, and retirement communities.
